"i hope to see you come back as a CI next year", CI Low Ee Shang
last night was the last training session that my buddies and i will ever have in NDP 2006. after that some of them told me, "you're different from the rest, a different SI, a SI that doesn't shows off his rank like most of the others do". "do you want to know why you are such a hot target for cameras? because you just know how to make the people taking the shot laugh, and not smile for it". come to think of it, i love being arrowed to do jobs such as taking attendence and conducting uniform check, cause it makes me know that it's not just that, but it's all about loosen the guys up for the parade when i always say, "how are you doing today? don't worry, we're gonna do this right".
"help me to take care of the kids (cont. mates) okay?", CI Chen Lian Yu
i will also remember how i used to take an hour to don up my badges and iron my uniform to prepare for the rehearsals. when i go for the rehearsals, there will be someone, without fail, who will always ask me how long did it take to do up my uniform. for this is am further grateful because it makes me a role model to others. because others look up to me. because i try to live up to everyone's expectations. through this parade, i learnt many other things. leadership is not about commanding or walking with the rest. it's about the ablility to inspire. "are you always this positive?", "please, i don't want to laugh anymore", "chili is red so you can use it paint your face if you have not paint for national day".
"this badge is yours so you keep it with you, keep it on, be proud", CI Koh Tian Guan
then for a particular reason, i will remember all you guys out there that entered my life. cause i've made many mistakes and you guys are the reason that i don't wanna make them again. not everything is about force, not everything is about what you have. it is about playing a game called "touch my favourite tree" that we used to joke around about and loved it so much. the reason is that you guys... are my friends.
"regardless of rank and number of badges, i'm your friend", SI Hsu Chee Keong (me)
lastly, thanks guys for letting me know that you do not need a rank to get people to do something. because when i called for volunteers, it is you, my friends, that stood up to do the job.
